An upgrade to its www.visitdublin.ie website was announced by Failte Ireland

The new Office and rebooted website come in a year when the Grow Dublin Tourism Alliance has been tasked with "rebranding" the city. The new brand is expected around autumn.

Overseas visitors to Ireland increased by almost 9pc last year, the city has been underperforming against its potential - not to mention city break competitors such as Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen.

it is estimated that as many as 5,000 people a day could pass through the new Tourist Information Office in the peak months despite fewer visitors utilising traditional tourist offices caused by the range of digital tools now avaialble at their disposal.

This festival started out in 2005 as a small niche traditional music festival, a first for Dublin. It wanted to create something special – a festival showcasing the cream of both Irish and international trad and folk artists while also providing a stage to promote the next generation of Irish musicianship. From modest beginnings (just 500 tickets in our first year), the festival has gone from strength to strength, with 8,000 tickets sold in 2014. The past decade has has seen the festival grow in terms of size, ambition and musical breadth, with a line-up that now appeals to the purist and the merely curious alike. Although Tradfest is now Ireland’s largest festival of traditional music we now also feature artists from the worlds of folk, nu-folk, and even (whisper it) rock and roll! We want to keep it special – we are still a boutique Winter festival – closing the door on the darkest season and ushering in the light and energy of Spring. TradFest also offers concert goers unique opportunities to experience live music in some of Dublin’s most historic places. From the breathtaking nave of St Patrick’s Cathedral to the grandeur of City Hall, this is the difference between memorable and unforgettable.

Since 1985, Merrion Square art has been regular feature in Dublin and on a Sunday morning many people take a romantic stroll around Merrion Square when it becomes an open-air art gallery. The Exhibition runs from 10.00am to 6.00pm.

The Exhibition is organised by Dublin City Council and the Artists are only allowed to exhibit original paintings on Merrion Square so you get to buy original art directly from the artist.

This is Dublin’s only free all year open-air weekend art exhibition which now has nearly 200 artists exhibiting. It is the perfect place to pick up quality art. Every year new artists are allowed to exhibit so the work and artists keep changing. If you have an eye for art, you could well come away with your very own treasure.

No commission is included in the price of the paintings so you will discover that the prices are quite reasonable. You get quality art straight from the hand of the artist.

You get to meet the artist, discuss their art and get an insight into the colourful life of the artist. The artists are friendly and are happy to talk about their work with passersby.

What better way than to spend a Sunday than to have a romantic stroll around Merrion Square in a beautiful Georgian setting viewing art. All the family can enjoy art in this historic cultural setting.

There is a great variety on display, with of course a great selection of work from traditional to contemporary styles.

If your straying in Dublin why not take a bus tour from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher or Connemara. Book now @www.dublintoursbus.ie

Location: Loop Line Bridge (Railway Bridge)

Once again swimmers are challenged with the competition and excitement of swimming throughout the heart of one of Europe's greatest cities.

Over 250 men and 100 women will swim in the historic Liffey Race. Spectators are encouraged to support the competitors from the banks of the river, with the Liffey Boardwalk providing a great viewing point

This eagerly awaited Dublin City Council sponsered event sees swimmers of all abilities and a variety of ages compete. The course begins at the Watling Street Bridge near the Guinness Brewery and finishes at Custom House Quay.

Unfortunately construction on the LUAS Bridge from Hawkins Street to Malborough Street is not completed. It is difficult to determine how much progress will be made by the summer. At this stage the Open Sea Committee are planning to use the same course that we used last year, from the Loop Line Bridge (Railway Bridge) to the East Link Bridge.

Dublin Pride 2013 will be a phenomenal festival celebrating three very important historic milestones. This festival will represent the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Irish Gay movement, the 30th anniversary of the Dublin Pride Parade and the 20th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. All LGBT brothers and sisters who left Ireland due to either poverty or persecution are invited to return to celebrate the wonderful diverse and inclusive culture of modern Ireland. We call everyone, from the four corners of Ireland to the four corners of the world, to come to Dublin and 'Live, Love and be Proud'!

This year sees Dublin Pride Parade celebrating its 30th Anniversary and will be held on Saturday, 29th June. It is the culmination of Dublin Pride’s festival that includes the parade through the city centre and a party in the Pride Village in Merrion Square afterwards.

The parade is a celebration of the rich diversity of the LGBTQ community in Dublin, Ireland and the world, with an expanded arts, social and cultural content. Dublin Pride is the largest such celebration in Ireland and has grown from a one-day event into the 10-day festival we have now.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Live, Love & Be Proud. So get your thinking hats on, come up with your costumes, float ideas, group outfits to show how you live, love and are proud. Let’s make it an explosion of colour, music, glitter, sequins and even feather boas. Complete your registration form and submit it ASAP. All applications must be in by 31st May.

This year the parade will assemble at the Garden of Remembrance from 11am and will embark on its route at 2.00pm sharp. From there it will head down O’Connell Street towards College Green, into Nassau Street, Clare Street and will finish at Merrion Square Park for the Pride Village.

What is unique about Dublin and what can we use to develop a powerful tourism strategy for Dublin’s future?

To answer these questions, we need your help and that is why we are inviting you to join the Grow Dublin Taskforce Dublin 2020 Mega Open Minds-Workshop on June 18th 2013 to participate in the development of Dublin’s future as a top-class tourism destination.

Who are we?

The Grow Dublin Taskforce is a representative cross section of the tourism industry. We want the best possible tourism strategy to boost the city and region’s growth to 2020 and, to ensure this happens, we need to look at what experiences need to be enhanced or developed to grow Dublin’s tourism.

We believe that a collaborative approach, led by the Taskforce and involving a true cross-section of all the people – those who promote, live in or visit the city for leisure and business - will enable us to develop the most powerful tourism strategy for the future of the city and region.

Where can you fit in?

Bring yourself and your views to our Dublin 2020 Mega Open Minds-Workshop on Tuesday 18th June. The workshop has been organised so that you can come to The Morrison Hotel, Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 whenever suits you. You can select the session which fits your schedule best: at 10.00am, 12.00pm or 2:30pm. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your selected session to allow for registration.

The sessions won’t be too long and we will need just two hours of your time. Simply put, there will be a short presentation on the project then you will join a small, interactive break-out session where we will take you through early ideas (which will be tested with potential visitors after the workshop) on how we might communicate Dublin’s distinctive offering to attract more visitors in an increasingly competitive world.

Don’t forget to register soon

The members of the Grow Dublin Taskforce are keen to hear your views and this is also an opportunity to catch up with fellow members of the tourism industry as well as other interested parties.

As this is a pre-registered event and places are limited, please complete the RSVP by clicking on the below link. We would be grateful if you could indicate at what time you are planning on arriving to enable us to manage numbers.

If you have any further queries about this event, please contact the facilitators on Jan@mccp.ie or Megan@mccp.ie
